Potassium Citrate (99 mg)

Small potassium capsules, 99 mg each — the size regulators allow for over-the-counter sale. Citrate is the common form.

  • 99 mg capsules
  • Citrate form
  • 180–500 count

Why you’d want it: The mineral that is hard to top up with food when you are eating less, and the one missing from most cheap electrolyte mixes.

Picking tip: Potassium is the one electrolyte to be careful with: if you take a blood-pressure tablet, a water tablet or have any kidney history, ask before you start. Food first (a banana or a potato beats the capsule), and never open capsules to take several at once. Not sold in this form in Australia; the electrolyte tablets cover it there.

Supplements are food, not medicine: nothing here treats or prevents anything. If you take any medicine, ask a pharmacist first.
