Why you’d want it: A fridge that lost power at 2 a.m. is silent and cold-looking by 7. This is the cheap insurance that tells you it happened, so you know whether the vials spent five minutes or five hours warm.

Picking tip: Plug it into the same socket strip as the fridge, not a different circuit. The siren-only ones are enough if someone is usually home; if you travel, pay the extra for a Wi-Fi model that sends a phone alert. Pair it with the Wi-Fi thermometer and the fridge can't fail quietly.
